Worker Killed In Austin Construction Accident

Comments Off

A fatal construction accident at a South Austin construction site is being investigated by the Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA).

Two workers were caulking brick work around a staircase, located at the Retreat at North Bluff Apartment complex, when they fell off their makeshift scaffolding. The accident killed one worker and injured the other.

Investigators are unsure if the men fell or if the scaffolding gave out. Details about the accident cannot be released while the investigation is ongoing. OSHA has six months to complete an investigation.

A non-profit group called The Workers Defense Project says it is talking with some of the co-workers who witnessed the accident.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, fatal work injuries recorded in 2009, were a total of 4,340 a decrease from 5,214 work injuries in 2008. You can also read more about construction safety at The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
